I know this has come up before, but no-one seemed to know the answer then. Problem is as follows: I have an APC Back-UPS 650 and a CD with PowerChute v.5.0.2. So far so good. PowerChute tells me the UPS is 'on-line' but does not appear to get a signal from the UPS when it goes on battery. I'm using a standard serial cable. APC's website suggests using their #940-0020B cable, which isn't even in their catalogue. The 940-0020 is, however, but if I were to order it, they'd charge me almost 50 EURO for it (like 42,5 $)! I only paid 90 EURO for the UPS (bargain since it's brand new). If you see the picture of the APC cable on the APC website, it even hasn't got a dongle, so I can hardly imagine it has some special electronics in it.

Add an RS232 serial port to your system using a spare USB header. The ICUSB232INT1 USB to RS232 serial adapter lets you add an RS232 port to any. Dec 01, 2001 APC's cable for that UPS has a different pinout than a regular serial cable. It offers Plug and Play funcionality among other things (read something about in APC's site a long time ago) which I.
So, the 42,5 $ question is: does anyone know the pinout so one could solder his own cable for a couple of bucks?
Thanx
